The Barangay Pepita Learning Center

More information to be coming:

The Barangay Pepita Learning Center was completed on June 5, 2008 and it the very first for the Barangay Learning Center project. Books consisted of discarded library books donated from libraries in the United States. Please see the How You Can Help page . The building was built from scratch using local materials and local manual labor consisting of community volunteers. The entrance mural was painted by Peter Polillo. The Pepita community is on a remote area of Leyte in the Philippines. The main source of income for the local community is rice farming and copras, a product derived from coconut. Many children quit school at the 6th grade due to the cost of education and the responsibilities of helping their families.
